October at CryoDAO was filled with huge updates in our ongoing projects. Read on for the latest from the stewards and working groups.
Ovary Transplants
Exciting updates from CRYO-20: The first ovary transplant and preservation was completed - made possible exclusively by CryoDAO members!
This is an exciting moment for both CRYO holders and all of DeSci. Following this, six more transplants took place and the team is well underway to finalize all remaining transplants by the end of the year.
“We spoke with the Gaia team for our first progress update, and were thoroughly impressed with the speed and quality of execution. While there are many proprietary R&D aspects we aren’t allowed to share, we’re happy to announce that a total of seven (!) transplants have already been completed and the team is well underway to finalize all remaining transplants by the end of the year. As a reminder, this is far from a simple transplant procedure. An ovary is harvested from a donor sheep, perfused with the help of Gaia’s proprietary perfusion device with customized pressure and flow, and then vitrified for an extended amount of time.
Most companies are developing ‘high subzero preservation’, which operates at temperatures between -2°C and -26°C, and may result in preservation times of days to weeks. Gaia’s focus is on vitrification, which is cooling tissue to extremely low, liquid nitrogen temperatures to put tissue into a glass-like state. This allows for almost indefinite time of preservation and enables the creation of something we’re very passionate about here at CryoDAO – organ banks.
After vitrification, the ovary is carefully put through a procedure called nanowarming. Nanowarming is a technique that involves the rapid and uniform rewarming of vitrified tissues/organs by using alternating magnetic fields to heat nanoparticles distributed within the tissue, thereby preventing ice crystallization and thermal stress during the warming process. If it sounds complex and advanced, it’s because it is. Finally, the rewarmed organ is replanted into the same sheep that donated it.”

CPA Database Updates
CryoDAO recently voted through CRYO-19: CryoDAO CPA Database to build an online repository of cryoprotectants. In a short period of time there have been some major developments of the project.
“Although just launched, we're already deep in phase 1 of the project. Our fantastic PI, Dr. Barry Bentley, is Head of the Bioengineering Research Group at Cardiff Metropolitan University and a 2023-24 Fulbright Scholar in the NSF ATP-Bio at Harvard and MGH. For the next two months, we're conducting in-depth interviews with leaders in the field and have begun DB development. The excitement from researchers is palpable! Our next steps will involve drafting a ‘consensus statement’ peer-reviewed paper with cryopreservation leaders, preceding the launch of the database.”

Below you can see what the next two months look like as we proceed with stage 1 of the project.
Hereticon
Kai Micah Mills from CryoCore attended Hereticon this past week, an invite-only event to share heretical ideas hosted by Founders Fund. While much of the event is secretive, there were many conversations had that will greatly benefit the future of CryoDAO.
Read about day one of the event on Pirate Wires.
Beravangelism
Kai Micah Mills also attended Beravangelism earlier in the month, a side event hosted by Berachain. Will we see some 🧊🐻 in the future? Stay tuned…
CryoDAO recently put out a call for new research: if you know anyone working on the topics of hibernation or torpor in humans, we want to fund them. Earn CRYO by introducing us and helping out with deal flow!
Vitalism
In case you missed it, CryoDAO is now a certified vitalist organization. Watch the video below featuring Kai Micah Mills from CryoCore.
Vitalism is a moral philosophy and community of action, forming a revolutionary movement to get humanity to fight as hard as possible to achieve unlimited lifespans in peak health.
CryoDAO is just getting started with many more incredible updates to come.
